Recreational Use: Conceptual Confusion Caused By Artificial Language
Language has a way of bewitching our understanding of the benefits of cannabis
Here is a solid update on what entrepreneurs are thinking and worrying about after the new Prime Minister's announcement that there will only be medical weed in Thailand.
I share my thoughts on the subject in the last section of the story.
The last section of this must-read story, "How Could The Cannabis Industry Change?", reads: "Carl K Linn, author of newsletter Cannabis in Thailand, believes recreational use is here to stay."
Two things: 1: I do not believe this and did not say this. I mention this not to call out the author, who is a thorough researcher and a very good writer. The misunderstanding stems from a false dichotomy pushed by the media and (only some) cannabis lawyers.
Rather, it provides yet another reminder that the legalistic recreational use/ medical use distinction so loved by a certain type of cannabis attorney (some of whom publish often on this site) has no real-world application and is currently being used as code for "misbehavior." It is a way of qualifying the purchaser and makes no sense when it comes to consumption.
My solution is, I believe, entirely consistent with Deputy Prime Minister Anutin's position. Briefly: All adult use of cannabis is medical. This medicine can be used to enhance well-being or it can be abused (by minors and grownups who never grew up).
Thailand is in a position to introduce over-the-counter medical cannabis to the world. So I agree that recreational use as a concept should be consigned to the flames.
To identify this new territory, I have coined the term "Expansive Medical Use."
2. I spoke as the Senior Advisor to Cannabox Thailand, the first delivery service provider from licensed dispensaries to the consumer's door. We don't make the pizza; we just deliver it.
Our promise:
-- Age verification of consumer.
-- License verification of dispensary.
-- Delivery in 30 minutes.
We also bring the community together and educate the public. Looking forward to another historic high season in Thailand!
